When I’ve said everything that You want me to say, I’ll stop speaking.
When I’ve heard every sound that You want me to hear, I’ll stop hearing.
When I’ve written every word that You want me to write,
When I’ve sung every song, when I’ve seen every sight,
When I’ve felt everything You want me to feel, I’ll stop feeling.
Then I might find You.
When I’ve failed everything that You want me to fail, I’ll stop failing.
When I’ve lost everything that You want me to lose, I’ll stop losing.
When I’ve trained just as hard as You want me to train,
When I’ve gained everything that You want me to gain,
When I’ve reached every prize You want me to reach, I’ll stop reaching
Then I should find You!
When I’ve gone everywhere that You want me to go, I’ll stop going.
When I’ve done everything that You want me to do, I’ll stop doing.
When I’ve found every thing that You want me to find,
When I’ve tried everything that You want me to try.
When I’ve been everything that You want me to be, I’ll stop being.
Then I will find You.
And I’ll realize that these distractions never defined me.
And I couldn’t see the forest, for all the goddamned trees.
